Specialising in Advanced Cosmetic Procedures & Cryotherapy

Seborrheic Keratosis, Sun Damage & Environmental Changes
Sebhorreic Keratosis - changes in the skin often caused by UV exposure. It can take years to 'collect' our souvenirs of life then suddenly they begin to appear as we grow older sometimes chemical/medication or hormonal changes effect us. Some people are genetically more prone to SK, often with a high oil content in the skin . Good news Sebhorreic Keratosis is not cancerous & is easily treated with a choice of treatments.
It is also AVOIDABLE with correct skin care - regular exfoliation & SPF !
WHERE DOES IT EFFECT - anywhere you have skin but normally exposed sites - face, breasts, chest, back.
I use a choice of 2 methods sometimes I choose both
Why do some clinics only offer Cryotherapy? It is very quick to blast a blemish & it is easier & quicker to qualify in Cryotherapy than Electro Cautery - I have spent 27 years perfecting my job in removing skin conditions.
CRYOTHERAPY - Cryopen
The Cryopen™ has millimetre precision. This allows for control of the nitrous oxide penetrates and the circumference or border of the area treated. Excellent for the treatment of sun spots/pigmentation, verrucae & warts among others. However, it IS NOT the answer to all treatments or all SK.
Cryotherapy thaws into the lower layers of the skin, we cannot control how deep that will penetrate, we have to consider if the damaged skin can recover from such harsh treatment?
Cryotherapy can affect/ blanch the pigmentation of the skin especially in Olive, Asian or Coloured skins.
In most cases yes, the skin can recover but when choosing Cryo we have to consider a few things:
* How Raised & Rough in texture is the crust - will it need a second treatment?
* Is the skin below the SK crust indented, damaged, blood vessels under the crust been damaged?
* Can the damaged skin withstand the treatment to recover to a good standard, no visible sign it existed?
* Depth & Darkness of healing scab & longer to heal than cautery.
Electro Cautery
Electro Cautery, is an alternative method & often the preferred method. I don't know why people are so 'put off' when I mention it. It is a commonly used in Dermatology & often better results than Cryotherapy, we gently tap over the area with a fine probe delivering a low heat that cauterises the damaged area, this we can absolutely control for ultimate pin point precision.
* It is more suited to Dry, Raised Crusts of Sebhorreic Keratosis.
* Ultimate pin point precision.
* The results are amazing, rarely requires a second treatment.
* It leaves a shallow scab & healing is quicker than Cryo
* Great choice for delicate eye area
* Can be used on smallest of blemishes.
ABOUT THE TREATMENT
Initially the concern will be assessed, if I am happy that is it sun/enviromental damage and nothing more sinister we can proceed with treatment. Using Cryopen or EC with a fine tip allowing for precision.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER TREATMENT
The treated area becomes a darker pink/plum colour. Sometimes tiny blisters appear on the treated area. Over the 24 hours a dark scab/crust will form on the treated area - expect this crust/scab to be in place for 10 days or more if you're healing is slower. You MUST NOT pick or remove scab/crust it is allowing healing to take place. Premature removal of crust can lead to scarring. The treatment is uncomfortable but as it is in short bursts it is bearable.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Large areas need to be treated in more than one session - a quarter or a third at a time depending on size.
You will need to keep out of the sun whilst healing takes place and use a high SPF to prevent further skin damage.
AVOID TREATMENT IF YOU HAVE A SOCIAL EVENT OR SUN HOLIDAY BOOKED WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF TREATMENT
In most cases the area treated will be healed in 2 weeks to the naked eye - full healing under magnification 6 weeks. Allowance must be made for individual healing capacity.
CAN YOU WEAR MAKE UP AFTER TREATMENT
Avoid make up around the treated area for 24 hours. When you do apply and remove make up be cautious not to knock scab off.
THE TREATMENT IS HIGHLY SUCCESFUL
I have achieved amazing results for my clients some images can be seen above.
IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF YOUR BLEMISH YOU CAN EMAIL AN IMAGE TO ME - Photos do not always show an accurate view but I can get an idea - info@elmlodgebeauty.co.uk
